This Thing Called Fi-bro-my-algia

Last week the name Fibromyalgia, or its definition did not exist in my everyday language or vocabulary.

Sure I heard the word before, I knew it was a condition of some sort. I never bothered to look into, because it was just one of those news words I heard at the time and thought how interesting but was never curious enough to search further to find out what it actually meant.

Let’s rewind the clock back to about three years ago

Three years ago, I had ‘symptoms’ what could be classed as generalised symptoms without any concrete, or tangible  foundations. At first, for all I knew it could have been Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or the ‘getting older syndrome much more sensitive to the cold and more tired than usual syndrome.’

No that was not it.

Goodness I was still young. I knew something was changing. At first I brushed the symptoms off as something that would soon wear off

Then it was the countless and endlessness trips to the GP Surgery- where my appointments became let’s figure out the next missing piece to this jigsaw puzzle

Then I progressed to the stage of becoming my own, ‘specialist Dr,’ for who could understand me, or know me better than myself? I had to take control, and stop feeling vulnerable at the hands of the medical professionals. I had to equip myself with knowledge that made feel empowered enough to articulate what I was feeling. I had to stop this foreign language with Dr's, for this cross purpose dialogue was not getting us anywhere- ‘mind you, we were speaking the same national language’ English.

Then it was onto the recruitment my own Specialist Dr's phase. Lucky me, I soon discovered that each Dr only focused on assessing different functions of the body. Eye's wide open, I learnt there was no single medical professional yet, who could piece all the broken pieces of me together back again. Mon Deau

So it was either the Arthritis, Gluten Intolerance, Thyroid suspected problems, or something Autoimmune related.  All diagnosed and assessed separately.

Moving onto the next stage, it even get's better. It was the, wait a minute stage, “all your blood tests are normal”- so everything must be okay with you. So if everything is okay with you, ‘say’s one medical professional indirectly pointing towards my head.’ Never felt so insulted in my life, “so it must be my imagination, or that my head is not okay, or are you trying to imply that I have a mental health condition?  Nothing wrong being assessed as having a mental health condition, but this is not what I am have spent nearly 30mins of my time describing to you…

You will excuse me, for a second. I may just need to take a minute to scream, yell out my frustrations and anger. Breathe and relax and exhale. For I could possibly not do so and 'act out of character.’ I would only be defeating my own solo-cause and be pulled out in a stray jacket.

Fast forward to today, to this exact moment.  I almost want to wear a bright sign, or a t-shirt with a bright red label to my next GP appointment which says, ‘TOLD YOU SO.’ Off course I would not so... I am better than that. Instead, I decided to take control and now I am seeing a GP who actually listens… Thank you

So let’s rewind back again to last week…

So last week Fi-bro-my-algia, Fibromyalgia now I can pronounce the name fully and even spell it. Fibromyalgia has became my daily vocabulary following medicals tests, after watching countless you-tube videos and undertaking google searches to learn what this condition was all about.

As I entered the hospital little did I know that I would soon be planted with a scarlet letter. I was given a number, told to walk through multiple doors to the Rheumatology unit. For some reason it was coloured coded yellow, whether that means anything or not – who knows? Only my wondering thoughts at the time, as I walked the green mile down the endless corridor

As soon as entered through the doors with the number and colour code, I knew this was my final destination. There was a box in front of me, in which I was to throw my number, mixed in with the rest of the patient’s numbers in the waiting room.

I wondered how the medical professionals would be able to identify my number if we were all given the number (1) and same colour code. It downed on me, we were all there with pre-determined and similar medical assessments. The only things that distinguished us all, was that we were called out by the nurse-one by one by our individual names…

As I sat down and looked around me, everyone else looked much older than me. ‘I shouldn’t be here, not yet, everyone else looks so much older than me.’ ---thoughts running through my mind yet again. Well guess what there is no number, or age to distinguish, or exempt anyone from this condition.

Another layer of reality kicked in with a dose of a bitter pill

The ‘Medical Specialist’ completed his pain assessments tests by the book. First came out the all familiar words again, ‘your blood tests results appear to be normal with a few minor concerns.’ My heart nearly sunk again, for which other specialist medical professional would I need to search for?

Only this time around it was a different outcome. Turns out, I have Fibromyalgia, I passed all the pain point’s tests; according to the specialist and the patient brochure I was handed- all the 18-20 points on my body ached. I ached where I didn’t even know the pain existed before.

I feel like I should get a medal, or something for passing this test- Unfortunately not the case.

So now I have a name to the endless, countless painful, soul and physically destroying symptoms

So now I have a name … do I feel better? Is my nightmare over?

I now have a name and my reality is now only sinking in

I am told there is definitely no magic cure, the only treatment is pain relief plus the added extra recommendations to ease the symptoms

Knowing me I will trying almost everything natural and organic for this thing must have stemmed from somewhere in the first place right? Just as it came it will soon disappear with the right treatment right?

Don’t worry the denial part or phase has already passed

Now it is the taking it all in phase- the condition/syndrome digesting it, day by day and maximising each opportunity and being thankful for what I have got phase- (although I hope it is a forever lasting phase)

Why thankful – I should be screaming, yelling, pulling my hair out, crying countless tears of ‘the why me phase’

Don’t’ worry after all, I am a human being – to not feel any emotion at all is not living in the true sense…

Why thankful- the condition itself is all those turbulent emotions wrapped into one. It (the condition) speaks high volumes on it’s on. When its at its best (or what I call beast mode- pardon my sense of humour), ‘the chronic stage’ – its angry rage already does all those things (unravels all it raging emotions), without me needing to be an active participant.  All my freedom and liberties of expressions are taken away- I am bound by the beast until it subsides again

Thankful because today is a good day – thankful for I am learning to store my energy for today for a rainy.

Thankful even though the challenges and loss of certain abilities that I can still articulate my feelings, walk, write, manage to eat, do everything else even if it’s achieved in small stages

Thankful for I have been able to stop and stay still from all the madness and crazy busyness of this word – of being wrapped up in the nothingness of it all and to actually appreciate each day

Thankful for I have learnt to be patient and to break down my goals into a few manageable minutes- routine has become my habit which when I had the capability to do I did not utilise

Thank for I allow myself to be and ride through the motions and allow myself to stop.

Are there some days where I feel like kicking and screaming, hell yes... I am only human right? Thankful for that too; ) Only better to focus my brain and in making myself "Limitless," like Matt Lloyd. After-all now I have the time to focus on myself right?

Moral of this Real Narrative?

Value what you have today, take it all in, use 'it' (you) to the best of your abilities. Achieve something meaningful enough each day, but not to the detriment of losing yourself completely.  Later is procrastination and tomorrow never comes...

Fear of Success

Fear of Success what does it feel like?

It feels like an uncomfortable gut feeling - a queasy type of feeling, anxiety ridden feeling, which can make you feel like your stomach is churning uncontrollably.

It is like that feeling of being on a roller coaster; before it is about to drop off into oblivion. You close your eyes  and hope only for it not to be a crush landing just before you jump into nothingness

It is this feeling of like a huge bubble is going to burst, but you do not want it to burst just yet -not now and not in front of everyone. You wonder what if everyone notices, how embarrassing it would be.

Is it the fear of others seeing and knowing; knowing only you, as you truly are and were meant to be.

It is the fear of what could be, all the possibilities you have dreamt of

The potential to be great, the 'free lifestyle' that you secretly crave, because you know you were meant to be so much more. You secretly know that you could contribute so much more in this world

It is the overwhelming fear of letting go, off the 'false sense of security' you have been holding onto for a long long time. Only you and I know that the 'your false sense of security,' does not fulfil you and only makes you miserable

It is the overwhelming fear of 'what if it actually happens,' the what if 'I actually succeed,' then what?

Just the thought of visualising success brings a sense of overwhelming fear

Fear of success ....

It is the endless doubts of oneself, the what if 'I am not good enough,'

It is the the endless questioning of oneself, the 'it is only me, who in the world would want to see, hear or listen to me'?

Overcoming the fear, self-doubts is like climbing Mount Everest and never getting to the peak, each time you climb halfway and end up back at the bottom

It is only when you finally reach the peak after overcoming all the obstacles of YOU, that you realise 'what the heck was I worried about after-all.' This is the stage of being on a Healthier High of 'I No Longer Care Cure'

When you finally reach the peak, you have reached the stage of embracing you and accepting you, for just being you. You reach the stage of valuing you with extra confidence that YES there are individuals out there (even if it's 1 or 2 and not millions) who truly value the message and skills you have to share

Once you cross the 'OTHER SIDE,' of FEAR you realise that your fear was only imaginary

You realise that the FEAR, only kept you away from you. Kept you away from maximising your true potential

You realise, 'your false sense of security,' was after-all ridiculous and absurd. That is the absurdity of life

In the words of  Albert Camus, "Life is Absurd, Rebel, Live, and Try To Die Happy"

WELCOME  to the world of the NEW YOU - that means you have crossed over that peak. Now you know what it feels like and there is NO STOPPING YOU and even better no looking back.

If you have not crossed over yet to the new you- WHAT IS STOPPING YOU?

NEW YOU_'CARPE DIEM'

Blink again and it will be 2017

I am not one to create new years resolutions. Are you?

Rather I try as much as possible to live each day by maximising on my true potential

Each day, mind you comes with its on challenges, but that's what makes life exciting

I will admit that one of the things I never did, but now do is keep A MUST DO list . Mainly a list of things that I need to achieve on a daily, weekly or monthly basis

"My mind does not function well with lists ,"(that's what I used to tell myself),

I used to jot a list of things down once, that I wanted to achieve in journal. Close the journal and retain my to do list in my mind. I am more of a visual person, once I write something I tend to remember things visually and tick the list off mentally one by one ....

The only downside to my old habits was not be able to creat a consistent path to achieving my goals much faster.  Also I would at times become overwhelmed by goals I needed to achieve.

So overwhelmed that I ended up doing nothing and watched each day passby

My current routine:
Flip charts, visual boards (my favourite), calendars, reminders. .. the works,  I have gone all out

The moment I walk into my creative space in my home, I have confronted with my goals starring straight at me at me (visual boards). I hold myself accountable

What I have learnt this past year:
  • One of the key things I learnt this year is that people live in a box the majority of their life and die in a box. We are attuned to living other people's lives whether it be via watching, 'celebs' on TV, Friends on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, the list could go on..
  • the saddest thing is that people leave this world with all their talents and life’s passions  buried away forever never to be retrieved again.
  • I have learnt that it is a must to follow one’s PASSION in life… rather than waiting for opportunities to come knocking at one's door. To take a moment to reflect on what makes you happy in life, what you define as your PASSION in life!!! Once you know what your passion in life is, creativity will flow freely

I have learnt that we each have a special message to share with the world.  Wouldn't  it be rather unfortunate not share who we are, what our skills and talents are?

There is always someone at least one or more individuals who could benefit from us, sharing our skills. We could potentially be helping someone to become unstuck in their life.

By not sharing we are depriving others the opportunity to ease their burdens.

What you have learnt so far in life is of value and sufficient enough to help someone else ….

There is no such thing as being perfect, for we learn through mistakes in order to create something great

Most of us carry our key skills in everyday life, and do it through autopilot without even realising how much we are contributing in other people’s lives

Now just imagine if you could fine tune your key magic skills right now. Imagine how many people you could help?

This is the key to life, actualising one’s potential by doing so, you help others along the way

To end,  I write because I chose a few years ago unknowingly, to not live life in a box. I chose not to sit back and admire only how well others were doing

I continue to learn each day and challenge myself, knowing at times I crave to be lazy; when those moments creep in I allow myself to be.. then I dive back again to excelling into living.

I would say it does not come easy, especially like me if you have experienced various extraordinary challenges in life. The extraordinary experiences become my fuel and drive to value and appreciate what I have got now. To do better and not take life for  granted

Finally, there is no such thing as someone being more intelligent in a skill

It is only through consistent practice, dedication, drive and through fine tuning of our intuition/life passions that we become knowledgeable and intelligent. We become part of the inner circle of MASTERMINDS

It is better to be surrounded by people who will positively encourage you to pursue your dreams. People who share similar passions in life, so when the tough gets going, you are able to tap into their energy to keep you going

I have learnt to continuously surround myself with achievers- people who have actualised their true potential and living their lives they way they wish to live

Here is to you and to actualising your life's passions in 2016 and beyond

How Do I Write A Memorial Message?

How does one even begin to write

How can I even put it into words

How can I even consider it

Here we are, a year on and yet it feels like yesterday

Sat here with a notepad ... I am meant to be writing a message; a message for your memorial

How do I write about you in the past tense

How do I write about you only in memory

What do I write?  For I have no words, it all feels too raw and surreal still

It all feels like a joke, at some point now I just think someone will snap me back into reality and tell me it was all a dream

For how can I even start to contemplate a sweet and caring angel like you, my angel not being here in this world?

Everytime I start to scribble something my mind draws a blank

Instead  pain creeps in, memories of you one by one flood in

My mind, my mind only re-opens yet another deep wound another window of memories of you

See these memories of you and I were suppressed for a while,  for you were not meant to be a memory

To visualise or think of those memories would definitely mean that more flood gates and wounds that cut deep would re-open

How can I write about you, as a memory?

For you were never to meant to

You were never meant to depart

You were never meant to die so young

I shall continue loving you still and deeply plus infinity

Key to Success

What have I learned so far?

I tend to have many ideas floating around in my mind, lots and plenty of them that just float in my mind. Then at times I become overwhelmed and do nothing. I can become a creative procrastinator, a perfectionist to the point that I end up going around in circles before turning my goals into reality

I have learnt fear sometimes leads me into focusing on others things rather than my actual goals. That at times, focusing on my true potential actually brings it own anxieties and fears

I am writing this now, because I had so many ideas floating in my mind, yet again. I decided to take a few minutes break from studying. This is how my mind works, at times I flow from one thing to another. From one idea to many ideas

What have I changed?

I decided to change my habits of the I can't do, into I can most of the time.
I decided to change moments floating into focused achievable goals

How do I refocus my mind?
I started to retrain my mind on a daily basis into positive thinking- shutting down the negative voice which at times seems to win the battle

I started to surround myself with the people/friends who believe in the 'I can do attitude' and 'I will attitude.'
I started to educate myself on how to translate my goals into achievable goals
I started to educate myself by finding free educational resources online, which could teach and empower me to actualise my true potential

What I am Learning;
I am learning how train my mind into not being distracted by many things; time wasters. For instance I have timed myself on how long I will write this blog; so that I can then refocus my energy on studying again.

I have learnt that there are many distractions online. I moved away from the clicking culture- the habit of clicking from one story line to the next and before you know 10 mins turns into an 1 hour of nothingness.

I am learning how to maximise on time each day by setting specific goals

I have learnt that exercise does not have to be a punishment, rather it should be something one enjoys. I have reconnected with my childhood hobby of dancing and turned it into fun exercise; which then turns exercise into an enjoyable experience

I decided to find a mentor - in the form of someone who can motivate me and snap me back into reality when my mind starts to wonder and ponder ( a mentor in form of a friend)

Small Routines that lead into daily habits: What do I  mean by this?

  • Breaking down goals into small daily routines, makes a bigger dream more achievable and realistic.
  • Taking time out and being specific about goals one wants to achieve each day (including being specific about date and time to focus) achieves more results that not doing anything at all.
  • Noting down things one is grateful for each morning, makes one more thankful and appreciative of life. Also turns negative thoughts into positive ones
  • Regular exercise stimulates the mind into creativity and proactive mental engagement. 10 mins -30 mins exercise a day can be become a habit rather than attempting to climb mount Kilimanjaro in a day).

What is a goal?
I have rediscovered what it means to have a goal in life.

I have discovered what my intended purpose and goal in life is. By starting with my end goal and worked my way backwards into what I need to achieve on a daily basis in order to reach my end goal.

I am more in tune with my body and mind; I now appreciate internal fear, anxiety, stomach churning moments and push myself beyond these feelings

For instance, I presented at a seminar not too long ago. A week before the seminar, my mind and body started to work overtime. The thoughts of self-doubts about my ability, the fear of how many people were going to be there, the what if I mess up thoughts all started creeping in. I turned these negative thoughts into positive thoughts - into a CAN DO ATTITUDE. I made myself believe that I was the best at this topic and nobody else knew the topic more than I did. I imagined that I would deliver the best presentation and imagined the positive aspects of achieving the end goal.

Back to goals and what it means to have a goal:
A goal is something that makes me nervous and something that questions my potential and ability to actually achieve

A goal is like the feeling of jumping out of the plane - at this stage there is no turning back. Most successful people thrive on fear, and live off fear, as part of their means to achieve goals

It is overcoming the what's if I fail, or I am a failure and I will not try anyway

A goal feels like attending an interview of your life, where you are the judge and jury. It (the goal) is the constant questioning - and the question what will people think of me, what if I mess up

A goals is actually learning to fail, in order learn how to do things in  a much better way. It is like the feeling of falling off a bike as a child, getting bruised yet getting up again, until one is able to ride that bike.

The obstacles to goals

  • Our family, culture, tradition narratives, which we carry in our invisible suitcase of life
  • The million of voices which say, you will be like this, this was your intend purpose to the point your own self identify get los
  • The daily 9-5 job or routine which is way too comfortable, because jumping off means there is no life line
  • The I will do it tomorrow, because today I have so much to do. Or I do not have time, or money to do anything, so  I will wait until something better comes along
  • The I can't because, only the rich, the privileged, the lucky one's only achieve

Tomorrow never comes and death only comes knocking once

I have realised that tomorrow never comes and to maximise and add value to today

I am learning to appreciate today, rather than tomorrow thereby minimising regrets when tomorrow does finally arrive

What I am learning about TRUE SUCCESS:

Success in material form, does not equate to happiness

Success in the form of educating, impacting and changing others people lives equates to happiness

That Rome was not built in a day. Ideas contained in the mind, which are not shared in the form of educating others is wasted knowledge. That knowledge was intended to be shared

That I do not need for death to come and snap me back into reality because it would be too late

I have learned that many millions of people have died with ideas and goals still in their mind; sadly their dreams, thoughts and goals in life are lost forever

By breaking goals down into smaller achievable goals, life become less overwhelming. Ideas became less overpowering. One starts to finally create in smaller steps in order to actually leave a true existence

Cardio-my-opathy

Cardi-MY-o-pathy?? Cardiomyopathy

I had to learn how to spell you, for your vocabulary or dialect did not exist in my world

l learnt how to truly speak in tongue through you

Now I know you like the back of my hand

You existed in my world and crept in uninvited, without me knowing you ever existed

You open the door and entered my world uninvited

If only you were like Dracula, I could have turned you away once you turned up at my door

When you showed, you sure did turn up and wanted to me know against my will

You came screaming and punching hard to be heard

You jolted in me into realms yet unknown

Your churned my stomach upside down and up again

You flipped me into unimaginable levels; for a never new the damage you could cause

You made me astute to the realism of what life is and can be

You pushed me into a world, I was not prepared just yet to enter, nor ready to explore

You drugged me unwilling into specialist areas, I had to disperser without a dictionary, or navigator

You threw me into a the lion den without a shield

You pushed me over the edge and propelled me to hung onto the cliff edge without safety ropes

You left me hanging with no certainties or guarantees

You sold me a deal which I was not prepared for; for there was no return to unwanted package

I could not return to the unknown or wish you away; for you were here to stay

I could not close my eyes and open them again; this was not dream and still is not a dream

You had become my reality and are now my reality

You are my reality

Although, you may not afflicted my physical being, you managed to yank every fibre of my being

I am now awake and astute to you

For you are now part of my life, my every waking moments to the realism and absurdity of life
